The Forbidden Word: Stretch Marks

I have often been asked how does one get rid of stretch mark and my answer remains the same. I think stretch marks can be lightened and stretch marks can be completely removed by surgery, but I have never seen a topical application that removes them overnight or even in 7 magical days.

I do however believe that Stretch marks can be prevented in all humans and that they are not hereditary. This includes pregnancy, excessive weight loss/gain and young adults going through a growth spurt.  I often see most teens showing signs of stretch marks on their inner thighs and with boys it seems to manifest first on the lower back.

Before we understand how to prevent it, it might be worth our while to explain how the body naturally prevents them.

Our bodies produce a natural oil layer on the skin. This layer is there to protect the skin and increases oil production when we go through growth spurts. Why? Because your body understands that it needs more elasticity. The oil provides this elasticity to the skin.

When using soap, we remove this barrier and the skin loses its ability to stretch. This is how stretch marks are formed.

WHAT CAN I DO DIFFERENTLY?

• Do not use soap on your breast, buttock or belly area, instead use the Elim Shower Oil on these areas. It will add to the elasticity the skin needs.
